The Forward Compatible Brand:
Creating a Content Ecosystem That Thrives Beyond the AI Bubble
As much as online marketers and tech enthusiasts are hyping “mastering AI” as the pathway toward long-term success, telling us we need to adopt it so we don’t get replaced or left behind, we believe there’s another way. A way that isn’t just accessible, but essential for mission-driven brands.
It’s undeniable that times are changing.
AI is advancing rapidly and infiltrating every corner of the internet. It’s not fear-mongering to say that it’s going to change (and potentially replace) a lot of professions as it continues to evolve.
As business owners, thought leaders, and creators, we have some options:
Jump on the bandwagon and position ourselves as AI experts, consultants, chatbot creators, and whatever-else-ers, making money in the short term with the hope that we’ll become well-known enough to continue being relevant. That is, until our role in those processes and offerings is no longer required, and we need that money to buy ourselves time to pivot.

Utilize AI to become more productive at what we do, churning out more content on our social media channels and hoping to stand out from all the other brands and creators flooding feeds with their AI-generated content. That is, until we burn out and lose time competing with other marketers in a space that our audience has likely abandoned (or tuned out of), and we have to find the energy and motivation to try something different.

Operate from true futurist thinking and consider the larger context of what’s happening and the longer-term effects it will have, paired with an understanding of the trends that have already been in motion since before 2020 (which—spoiler alert!—is a shift away from social media, online experiences, and solely digital offerings). We can then apply this thinking to different marketing and offering models, ensuring that these structures are in place and we've established visibility and discoverability for when people are more ready for them.
You can do a combination if it suits you, but we want to focus on the latter because not enough people are, and the world needs your purpose-driven work now more than ever.
True futurist thinking should center on more than just the new technology on the scene; it needs to incorporate a broader understanding of systemic, social, and economic shifts, which aren’t being discussed enough (or considered at all). Even our favorite long-time futurists are jumping on the “master AI” bandwagon, as if it’s just another new social media tool or marketing trend.
AI is indeed a game-changer, but most aren’t looking at what’s beyond this initial bubble, and it’s not the same thing as a new tool or marketing trend.

AI is fundamentally transforming the internet (and the world)…
It’s accelerating ecological changes that directly impact humans (and commerce)…
Add to this that economic growth is slowing, with a 40% probability of a recession, and…
We need to talk about creating forward compatibility within our work.
Forward compatibility, also known as upward compatibility in telecommunications, refers to a system’s ability to seamlessly handle inputs from a newer version of a related system.
In short, it ensures that older systems (our businesses and bodies of work) can still function effectively with newer technologies and systemic shifts (such as the rise of AI, growing distrust and burnout among many online consumers, and significant economic and social shifts)—without failing.

Creating forward compatibility is about:

Building marketing and connection channels that grow in momentum over time instead of vanishing into the black hole of social media’s noise and meet your ideal audience in their active search queries online (rather than scrolling past your posts in the ever-growing sea of content while sitting on the toilet or watching TV to decompress after work).

Developing true thought leadership, which is so much more than creating content or being able to churn out 100 times more than the next person. It's about establishing authority and influence (which doesn’t mean becoming a “social media influencer”) by actively and continuously developing your ideas to deeper levels with more unique angles. It’s evolving and iterating your work to the point that you're changing the conversation in your industry or sphere in a very specific way. With AI search entering the chat, this is even more essential to stand out in the growing web of generated articles.

Planning for the period beyond when the initial AI bubble bursts (because it will, be that from oversaturation, much-needed regulations, or because of its role in the spread of misinformation and disruption to social connection), so that you have a platform and funnel already in place that’s designed and ready to meet the future needs of your audience. The way consumers engage with the internet will continue to shift (though search will still remain important, especially human-crafted content), and now’s the time to lay a foundation that sets you up for real longevity.

Bringing a systems-thinking lens to everything you do, and widening that lens beyond your industry, current technology, marketing trends, and how things are working right now. While much of what’s happening in the world may feel distant from your work, we promise it’s not. Everything is interconnected, and we’re actively reaching and passing tipping points that will fundamentally change our world and our bodies of work.
To be clear: We’re not anti-AI.
It has a place and is here to stay, no matter how any of us feel about it.
That said, we see parallels to the dot-com bubble that ballooned during the late 1990s and peaked in March of 2000. Everybody is running excitedly, reactively, opportunistically, or somewhat blindly toward it without thinking strategically or factoring in the larger systemic elements at play.
That’s great!
We’re still inviting you to join our first workshop in The Forward Compatible Brand series...

Creating a Content Ecosystem That Thrives Beyond the AI Bubble
This in-depth workshop invites you to think beyond the current trend cycle, low-to-no-traction marketing practices, and narrow conversations within your industry and the online business world.
This workshop will walk you through:

Creating a content ecosystem that grows an engaged audience more and more over time, while creating less and less frequently, using search engine optimization (SEO) and strategic thought leadership content funnels. These funnels are designed to meet your right-fit clients where they're actively searching for you online, building a different kind of trust more quickly, and curating an engaged audience that you own.

Building the kind of authority and influence that withstands the endless increase in generated content and AI-based market shifts that will ultimately topple many businesses. Longevity requires examining the uncomfortable possibilities presented to us during any major systemic shift, so that we can strategically map a path through it. We’ll build toward a future where you’re the go-to in your industry by addressing the present instabilities.

Positioning your work to stay relevant no matter what the algorithms prioritize and withstand the already-happening oversaturation of AI content that will effectively push more of our audiences offline. This is about creating conversations that AI isn’t generating and regenerating so that you’re a brand people want to stay engaged with, building spaces for your audience to migrate to, and standing out as a beacon for true transformation.
This workshop will help you take the first steps toward building a brand with true longevity, not just short-sighted strategies and unsustainable “success.”

“The content and information are top-notch. It was a mix of refreshers and new ways of thinking about and approaching my work, and I took lots of notes! Your perspectives and angles on how to think about becoming a thought leader and establishing thought leadership are refreshing and take a long-term view in mind. They very much resonate with me.”
Kathleen Korpela, Founder of Living Goldenwell, livinggoldenwell.com
Here’s what you’ll get when you join us:
Not only will we teach you more about what SEO is, we’ll also provide you with the necessary reporting to give you a solid starting point for your optimization work, including:

Module 1:
Creating a Forward Compatible Brand
We'll take a dive into systems thinking for entrepreneurs and thought leaders, helping you widen your lens for true longevity in your industry, creating more resilience for your brand and body of work. We'll also talk about exiting the echochamber and building with true futurist thinking in mind.

Module 2:
Developing Your Unique Thought Leadership
Thought leadership is about so much more than creating and sharing content; it’s about developing ideas, concepts, frameworks, conversations, research, and innovations that establish authority and influence in your industry. In the age of AI search, it’s especially important to develop unique and compelling conversations that stand out in the search results and drive traffic from chatbots.

Module 3:
An Introduction to Search Engine Optimization
To ensure that everything we teach you makes sense and is rooted in strategic thinking, we'll walk you through how search engines work, what search engine optimization is, why content structure matters, and where AI Search fits into the picture.

Module 4:
Completing Your Keyword Research
You'll receive an audit of your current website to see what keywords you’re ranking for (if any), what SEO issues need to be addressed, an existing backlinks report to assess any need for quality control, and your domain authority. This provides a snapshot of your website’s discoverability health and readiness, and we’ll walk you through exactly how to resolve any issues. Plus, you'll get competitor analysis reports for two websites to see what keywords they’re currently ranking for (if any) that you can use to overtake them in the search results. These reports often provide a great starting point for targeting keywords, though they sometimes show that companies aren’t a search competitor, which leaves room for you to lead.

Module 5:
Website Audit and Competitor Analysis
We’ll walk you through how to narrow down your conversation buckets and turn them into a list of targetable keywords for your thought leadership SEO content funnels. We'll show you how to use Google's Keyword Planning Tool (free), Answer the Public (low-cost), and Semrush (high-cost) to find keywords with high enough search volume and low enough difficulty.

Module 6:
The Anatomy of a Thought Leadership Post
We’ll walk you through our unique approach for researching, outlining, and drafting a thought leadership post that’s designed not only to rank but to overtake the content already ranking on Google's first page. This includes how to use the keyword, best practices for hierarchy of information, and what multimedia elements give you the best chances of ranking.

Module 7:
Building Out Your Keyword Content Cluster
A single thought leadership post isn’t enough to rank or show Google that you’re an authority on that topic, which is why we’ll walk you through our process for creating cluster content. By creating content that addresses various related questions and subtopics, you increase your chances of appearing in search results for a wide range of queries, and we’ll equip you with the step-by-step strategies for building out your first cluster.

Module 8:
Utilizing the Second-Largest Search Engines
We’ll teach you our process for repurposing the multimedia elements from your thought leadership posts and leveraging the second-largest search engines (YouTube and Pinterest) to hit the trifecta of SEO optimization with ease.

Module 9:
Building Your Thought Leadership Social Media Library
While we don’t recommend social media as a marketing channel due to its low-to-no-value nature (because posts lose traction within seconds to minutes to maybe hours), we do believe in the value of turning your posts into a thought leadership library on your top social media profiles. When done well, this library will continue to refer traffic to your website when stumbled upon, even if you haven’t posted anything in months or years. Additionally, these posts are designed to work well as lean ads, which is a great way to drive traffic from social media without relying heavily on it.

You'll also receive access to our:
Monthly Ongoing Office Hours
Office Hours are not a group call; they're times when we're available on Zoom to answer your questions, provide laser coaching and feedback, and support you in any areas where you need additional guidance. The Office Hours schedule will be updated quarterly, and times will generally be scheduled on the third Thursdays of the month at 1 pm EST.
You’ll end our time together ready to flesh out your thought leadership and cluster content posts, equipped with all the training and resources you need to start ranking sooner rather than later.
And as if that isn’t enough…
You’ll also receive our Backlink Building Bundle!

Backlinks are, in short, links back to your website from other sites, and they’re essential to ranking your website and content quickly. That said, not just any link is effective, and not every link is structured in a way that Google will consider it. Our process for building quality backlinks is also designed to support your increased visibility and access to new, warm audiences.
In this bonus bundle, you’ll learn:

“Prior to meeting Stephenie, if someone said 'SEO!' I might roll my eyes and say to myself, 'that's not my thing, my bizz doesn't need that. We do things organically.' Post-SEO session and meeting Stephenie and her team, my inner dialogue sounds more like, 'YEAHHHH, SEO search engine optimization- a nifty tool for connecting the population to your work that YOU have busted your behind to curate for the collective!' Stephenie and her team are such good, smart, funny, clear people, and deeply efficient. I continue to work and trust my work with them.”
Dr. Jenn Mullan, Founder of Decolonizing Therapy®

"Stephenie and her team delivered a ton of foundation information and instruction on how to build SEO content. They gave me feedback on my keyword research, supplied additional keywords, and provided documentation on how they should be used throughout my site. I definitely have my work cut out for me, but I feel like the structure they provided has given me clear direction for the next 6 to 12 months as I optimize my site and start to get traction with SEO. Thank you!"
Sue Harper, Brand Strategist at Sharper Creative
Who is this workshop for?
In short, we welcome any mission- and purpose-driven individual seeking greater discoverability around a topic that matters to their heart. People who want to make a difference in the world and who are addressing social and systemic issues in their own unique way.
This is especially for those who wish to develop and evolve their thought leadership conversations, as the process in this workshop is less likely to be effective if you're using AI to think and write for you, or if you're not willing or interested in creating unique angles.
That includes:
This workshop is not for online marketers, businesses, or organizations focused on profit over people. It’s also not for anyone who doesn’t actually want to develop thought leadership and is just looking for another means to inundate the internet and people’s feeds with purposeless noise.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Yes! In fact, we love working on SEO with someone who’s starting from a clean slate. You don’t have to correct any rankings that aren’t aligned, and you get to set yourself up to grow in the right direction for your goals. You’d also be surprised at how many brand-new websites have SEO issues, presenting an excellent opportunity to ensure your site's foundation is solid.
Yes, our goal is to make this as accessible as possible, no matter your technical skill level. We’ll also be there to guide you through the process of keyword research, outlining, and addressing any issues that may need to be resolved on your website. If you don’t want to do this work yourself, we’ll also have options for how we can support you in moving forward, without getting your hands dirty!
Ask for help! We can review what you've done so far and provide recommendations on what to try next. We also have low-cost offers available for us to complete your keyword research for you, so you know it's solid.
No, you cannot use AI tools to complete your keyword research. It may be able to generate ideas for potential keywords, but the technology does not have access to traffic volume or keyword difficulty data.
Technically, yes, but we strongly recommend that you don't. The effectiveness of these strategies, especially in the age of AI Search, depends heavily on taking a thought leadership approach. AI generates from the same material, which means even if it can produce the appropriate word count needed, it's unlikely to be better quality or truly unique. Additionally, these processes are for thought leaders. To truly become thought leaders with authority and influence, we must maintain a deep connection to our concepts and our bodies of work. We don't believe in shaming or policing this, but we cannot, in good conscience, encourage it.
We can't answer that for you, as this work requires selecting targetable keywords that are aligned with your topics and audience, as well as high-quality content, among other factors. A good rule of thumb is to enter this work understanding that it can take a minimum of three to six months, sometimes longer. We plan to provide expanded content in the near future that will help you assess what's working and what's not the longer your content has been live, and that will be included in the price you pay today.
No, there are no guarantees that this will work for you. The reason is that these strategies hinge heavily on well-executed keyword research and creating content that is significantly better, more thorough, and higher-quality than the content already ranking. Those are factors we cannot control on your end; however, we've done our best to provide as much detail as possible to help you determine the best keywords for your goals. Additionally, we offer the option to ask questions on the site or join us for Office Hours, allowing us to provide feedback on your keywords and content. We also offer keyword research with a special discount to workshop members. We're here to support you, but we can't guarantee the outcome, nor can we promise ranking within a certain timeframe.
There are no refunds for this workshop, as you'll receive instant access to all of the materials and content. Additionally, as noted above, there's no guarantee provided because SEO success is determined by factors we can't control. Please read the sales page in detail and be sure this feels like the right investment for you.
No, Office Hours are not a group call; they're times when we're available on Zoom to answer your questions, provide laser coaching and feedback, and support you in any areas where you need additional guidance.
You'll join our private Zoom room when you're available during the scheduled Office Hours time, and hang out in the waiting room until it's your turn (you'll be added to the queue in the order that you arrived). When it's your turn, we'll admit you to the room so that we can start your 1:1 time. You may ask more than one question, but if there are people behind you, we may move you to the back of the line so everyone has time.
The Office Hours schedule will be updated quarterly, with times generally scheduled on the first and third Thursdays of each month. We schedule one call per month in the morning (1:00 p.m. ET) and one in the evening (8:00 p.m. ET) with the hope that we can accommodate varying time zones, working hours, and family needs. If you're unable to attend on these days and times, every module offers a questions and comments section to ask for help and share your work, allowing us to provide support.
